14.Emergency generator testing procedure

U can test the emergency generator full load test without black out. Check the full operating load in the manual/test reports. Check the various equipments receiving the supply from the (Emergency Switch Board) ESB. Ideal situation to try out is anchorage/port where no cargo operations are in process.

After doing the pre checks, just activate the breaker in the ECR connecting the ECR MSB & ESB, the emerg. Gen will start automatically & comes on load with in the req 45secs.In this case only the euipments receiving power from ESB will get OFF & then come on again once the power is restored from the ESB.


Then u can proceed to the emerg gen room & start other equipments which get supply from the ESB. It will attain full operating load & monitor all parameters on the engine & then the alternator, finally on equipments for the rated power.

For stopping the generator, the breaker is closed again and due to the interlock the generator becomes off load. Now again put the switch to manual mode to stop the generator. Press stop and the generator will stop.
