Reserve buoyancy - as per reeds
- It’s a potential
buoyancy of the ship which depends upon the intact water tight volume above the
water line of the ship
- If a weight is
added or buoyancy is lost due to bilging, the reserve buoyancy gets converted
to buoyancy by increasing the draft
- If the loss of
buoyancy exceeds the reserve buoyancy ship will sink
why is it needed
- It s defined as the buoyancy a ship can call upon to meet d loses of
buoyancy due to damage of main hull. Its use in the general working of the ship is to
provide a sufficiency of freeboard to make the vessel seaworthy.
