Two factors essential for the production of voltages are rotational speed and magnetic flux.
The rotor is driven at constant speed by the prime mover. This produces voltage at correct frequency.
The dc current in the rotor (excitation) is also adjusted until generator produces correct voltage.
To keep the frequency constant when load changes governor is fitted (KW loading)
To keep the voltage constant avr is fitted (Kvar loading)
