In Simple words, their is a complete duplication of steering gear unit
in such a way that if their is a failure, no loss of service will occur.
The rudder has to be capable of movement from 35 degrees on one side to
35 degrees on the other on a fully loaded ship condition and , 30
degrees on one side to 35 degrees on the other side within 28 sec . If
this movement is achieved with a single set of rams , its 100 %
redundant , if its achieved with 2 sets of rams, the steering gear is
50% redundant.
