A ship of displacement 10010 t has a container of 10 t Kg = 7.5m. The container is shifted transversely. A pendulum of length 7.5m deflects through 13.5 cm. GM = 0.76m , KM = 6.7m. Find the distance through which container is shifted. Also find new Kg if container is moved.
Given
Displacement △ = 10010 t
GM = 0.76m
KM = 6.7m
m = 10 t
Kg = 7.5m
Length of pendulum l = 7.5m
Deflection a = 13.5 cm
To find
1. Distance d
2. New Kg
Solution
1. Kg of the ship = KM - GM
= 6.7 - 0.76
= 5.94m
GM = (m x d x l) / (△ x a )
0.76 = (10 x d x 7.5) / (10010 x 0.135)
d = 13.69m
2. New Kg = Total moment / Total displacement
= ((△ x Kg of ship) - (m x Kg of container)) / (△ - m)
= ((10010 x 5.94) - (10 x 7.5)) / (10010 - 10)
New Kg = 5.938m

ReplyDeletePls conform in dieselship question DEFLECTION given in meter,but now taken as in cm. Pls check.
Length of pendulum is 7.5m. The deflection can't be 13.5m. It can be 13,5 cm or mm only.
