 A 4-pole machine running at 1500 r.p.m. has an armature with 80 slots and 6 conductors per pole. The flux per pole is 6 x 106 lines. Determine the terminal e.m.f. of d.c. generator if the coils are lap connected. If the current per conductor is 100 A, determine the electrical power

Given

No of poles, P = 4
Rpm, N = 1500
No of slots = 80
Conductor per pole = 6
Flux per pole ø =  0.06 Wb
Current per conductor I = 100 A

To find

1. Terminal EMF
2. Power

Solution

Total number of conductors Z = 80 x 6
                                                 = 480

Total current = 100 x 4 = 400 A

No of parallel path = No of poles (LAP WINDING)
                            A = P = 4

1. Terminal EMF , E = ( ø x Z x N/ 60) x (P /A)
                                 = (0.06 x 480 x 1500 / 60 ) x (4 / 4)
                                 = 720 V

2. Power = E x I
               = 720 x 400
               = 288 kW

  2. In the question the flux per pole is given as 6 x 106 lines, it should be 6 x 10^6
